10 minutes makes a difference?

This post is specially for those who are wondering how did my Lasik go?

Can 10 minutes really change my life?

Actually i started the first 2 lines above few months ago and cant even remember typing it..
Lets make it simple...

To continue from my story, after I layed off contacts for 2 weeks (a long long 2 weeks for me, longest since i started wearing contacts 10 years ago..)

Finally the day came... I flew back to KL, I was bravely alone at that time.. took a taxi to TTDI, quite an easy place to find..

So I did the 2 hour eye check (everything went smoothly as I have read from blogs, etc..)

I din do much research then, just wanted to get it done.. I went in at 9, and my LASIK is scheduled at 1130, just in time for lunch afterthat.

I was was brought to the surgery waiting room, where they explained the whole procedure, what to expect what not.. there should be discomfort but not pain..sounds alright to me at that time..

Waited patiently as I see the 2 people in front of me went in and after few minutes, u can hear the machine sound from outside, just a few seconds, and they both came out with a smile on their faces.. I was very nervous, but calmed after i witnessed that..

Finally when my turn came...

The opthalmologist had the last check of my eyes, he warned me that my eyes were slightly smaller that he might need to stuggle abit to fit in the suction machine.. I wasnt alarmed at all.. I just remembered that i need to keep looking at the green light..

SO I was on the table, they cleaned and drapped my eyes, put few drops of anaesthetic eye drops..

Afterthat, he was trying to fit the suction ring into my right eye to sort of hold my eyeball so that he can make the flap.. but it was alot of pushing and squeezing.. arg..

and throughout the process, i cant really see much. it was dark and at one point i was worried that i'll get blind.. it was actually quite torturing.. finally he said: no, we are not gona do this..

They started undrapping me and got me off the table!!

Whatt? seriouss?? does that mean i have to wear contacts forever?? After all thattt?

The suctions rings are asian fit but still too big for my eyes.. it never occured to me that it could be a problem.. never read about it anywhere.. grr...

He suggested another method LASEK where they use alcohol solution to remove the top epithelial layer of cornea.. etc etc.. I dont think i can do it on the same day.. after all the traumatic event..

and i had to get a cab back with my pupils dilated and cant really see properly..

afterthat, i went back to KK, with this:

(better not put the picture here, might scare some of you, but it was basically a red ring around the conjunctiva..)

Thankfully it resolved after about 3-4 days.. cuz when i when i was reading more about this, there are actually people that face this problem as well.. and hers is still there after few weeks..

After it resolved, I researched more about this LASIK vs LASEK thingy.. finally bravely made another appointment with them..hahaa.. this time I had a longer break afterthat and brought my bf with me..hahaa..well prepared.. I kept thinking mayb I wasnt meant to do it the first time cos i wasnt prepared..

Well, the second time worked.. As with Lasek, it takes longer to heal, so i was teary and my eyes were super sensitive, I cant even go to shopping complexes with air cond, the slightest wind hurt so badly.. but that was just for mayb 3-4 days.. and things get better afterthat.

had to wear this when i sleep for mayb 1 week..

1-3weeks...

I cant really see well for at night for mayb 7-10 days.. especially cuz i was working in paeds and all the blue phototherapy light is driving me nuts.. I cant write clearly during oncalls etc.. or when i'm tired.

3 weeks to 1 month

My vision recovered to about 50/25 vision after 1 month.. not much problem with night vision after 1 month. as for complications people always complained eg: dry eyes etc, mayb for the firrst 2 weeks quite significant, but after 1 month not anymore..

2 months

Yeaiii.. got my 20/20 vision..

my next appointment is 3 months time..hahaa.. but for the past few visits things have been good.. I cant remeber going back to this:

say bye-bye..

Packing is much easier if I need to travel.. serious..

Abit about LASIK vs LASEK for those who are interested..

LASIK

Basically they make a flap, cuts tru the first 2 layers of the cornea, we have about 5 layers.. they then close the flap back...so a thicker cut is made compared to LASEK.. thats y they alwiz need to make sure your cornea is thick enough before saying you are suitable (to be safer mayb more than 400 their unit).. they have a scoring system to see if the risk is big or small for you before aggreeing to perform.. so relatively safe..

Pros:

Super fast healig time.. by 24 hours, u can almost see clearly already.. not much discomfort after first day...

Worst senario (the THING u need to worry about):

a condition called corneal ectasia..

This is when your cornea loose its shape.. higher risk in thin cornea people.. cuz if ur cornea already thin, u cut sumore, it might not stay round..become protruding. try google for the pictures, quite scary.. n vision wise, needless to say.. definitely affected..

but with thick cornea, if u cut 1/5 of it, shudnt be a problem..

LASEK

With LASEK, the lasering part is the same, but difference is how they prepare the cornea.. cos my eyes too small to put in the suction, therefore cant make the flap, so they have to put alcohol to remove the thin layer of epithelial.. advantage is its a thinner layer removed compared to LASIK.. but it is removed completely.. cos too thin to put back properly..

Pros:

Less risk of corneal ectasia.. cos thinner layer cut.. and less risk of injuring the nerve, so less complications like dry eyes etc..

Vision wise, both the same outcome after 3 months...

Cons:

Longer healing time.. like mine takes 4-5 days discomfort. and vision takes time to perfection..

Worst senario.. the alcohol damage the epithelial cells etc make it difficult to recover, or formation of scar tissues during healing..

Really have to be super hygienic if you are doing this.. if they say no swimming, strictly no swimming.. if your eyes get infected, good luck sama lu..

So actually i am quite glad that I did LASEK la.. apart from the longer healing time, others were better..

Own Hair Cut

Hehe.. I have been telling ppl I need a haircut..

but then, have to pay 20++ pds to just trim it, abit sakit hati.. cos i plan to keep the long hair...

plus the ang moh alwiz cut the back 1 straight line 1..dono y...

Sooo...

Solution is: go to www.youtube.com..

search for how to cut own hair.. haha..

then agak agak la.. bahagi hair to 6 bahagian, slowly cut..

but long hair is easier la..cos can pull tot he front n cut..hehe

BEGONE...VIRUS..

Firstly to the virus that infect my upper respiratory tract.. Had self-diagnosed common cold caused by corysa virus?: batuk, nose block, fever abit, fatigue, bla bla... not a nice thing to have b4 exams..

n Now...this stupid virus that cause THIS:
Warning! Your're In Danger! wallpaper... sejenis malware..haih..

Maybe should do a research on the evidence of Patient - Computer virus transmission..


Everything is locked..apa pun takboleh buat..internet also kena block, safe mode all tak jadi..hard disk all locked, task manager also kenot.. Paling lawak is "for your boss, your friend, your wife, your children" ..all also I dont haveee!!..haha ppl call me the friend-less person..haha..terbukti this geek is a guy.. y din say husband...

the last thing i was doing is download "ENDNOTE"..to reference my report...so noble..not to say porn or wad.. (what is life without internet.. mayb God really wants me to do my report..)

But before that i feel my computer pelik pelik also..macam dirasuk..
The end note is one of the differencial diagnosis.

2nd Hypothesis:

there's this pop up that i remember few days ago that says spyware deteced, asking me to instal a anti-spyware.. which i think itself is a spyware... but i clicked X or cancel..

" according to a computer genius a.k.a Raja Computer, some program trick users punya..u click X or cancel means install.."

so they install this konon anti-virus to my com..which i noticed the kepelikan..so din reeli buka it, but still..
Haih, even the com genius that can solve whatever computer problem macam the windows help:
heehhhehehehee...

also kenot help liao..

even recover also become vegetative liao.. reformat lo..

Moral of the story: alwiz read the pop up, dun just X X X out of frustration.. (this is only if hypotesis 2 is true)

After i reformated the com, i need 2 download the driver for my network card from the internet..err.. but.. without the network card i cant go on the internet... my favourite word again.."VICIOUS CIRCLE"..

N after cucked my pendrive, cos trying 2 find where i keep certain files, kena dis 1:

'Windows cannot find 'RECYCLER\S-6-8-98-100003851-100001694-100019980-7581.com. Make sure you typed the name correctly'

The stupid RECYCLAR/S thingy... according to com genius is Aprilfool Virus... haih.. kenot open my D/ and E/ drive..which i takut, cos all my harta inside... i cuba reformat again..then the C drive not blocked liao..but D/ n E/ still ber problem..terbukti is that bodoh pendrive transfer the virus..grrr...

3rd Hypothesis:

- RECYCLAR thing is the underlying cause..the 'Warning! Your're in Danger" is the complication.. attract by this recycler 1..haih..

But now all settled la.. luckily my report tak damage, my stuff all "touch wood" still intact.. the Drive all is caused by some autorun thing..so install autorun eater, in 5 seconds, kau tim..

the RECYCLER/S file itself keep pop up on my antivirus.. but dengan bantuan com genius, berjaya dihapuskan with racun serangga...

Now my com oredi kasi few layers of protection, safer than Durex even.. pertahanan even more cekap than A famosa..

Rempah Udang aka Pulut Panggang

As promised:
One fine afternoon, jogged to Hing Sing, a Chinese Supermarket in Leith 2 get banana leaf for my rempah udang.. + have to rush back for badminton afterdat..

I am getting more impressed with this supermarket, they alwiz have stuff that I din expect.. like some grean bean powder from indonesia.. now my banana leaves n pandan leaves too (thx Jenn for the info)... haih, at home, my pandan leaves grow ber-bush-bush, just cut and wash can use liao..one of the ingredient alwiz taken for granted..

and this...
Buah keras @ candlenut.. one of the stuff normally used in nyonya food..

and this:

Winter melon@tong kua.. hmm.. (tot wana omit that oredi, manatau ada..)

Hasil kajian recipe-recipe and also from my 22 years experience of living in Nyonya town, Melaka...

Rempah Udang Recipe

Ingredients

300g glutinous rice, washed, soaked overnight and drained 100ml thick coconut milk mixed with 1 tsp salt and 1 tbsp sugar 1 banana leaf, cut into 20 pieces (of 13x10cm rectangles), scalded to soften and wiped dry 40 pieces of 3cm-long bamboo picks, cut both the pointed edges (if malas use stapler also can la..) 8 pandan leaves washed and knotted Filling 50g white grated coconut (gua guna dessicated coconut..dono where 2 get grated here aa) 50g dried prawns, soaked, drained and pounded 50g prawns finely chopped (this 1 i added from another recipe) 30g candied winter melon, chopped finely 1 tbsp oil Ingredients (A) – (Ground finely) - if gotmortar use mortar n tumbuk 1 tbsp roasted coriander powder 1 small piece cekur root (sar keong) (Kenot findd!!!) 1 clove garlic 6 shallots 1 red chilli, seeded (or 1/2 tsp chilli paste 1 lemon grass and 1 buah keras (from another recipe) - if no buah keras, can use brazillian nuts kot.. Seasoning (B) 1/2 tsp pepper powder 1/2 tsp black pepper powder 3 tsp sugar (i added more to my liking, the ones i eat alwiz sweeter 1..hehe) 1/2 tsp salt or to taste 2 tbsp water

Method

Place rice on muslin lined steamer + pandan leaves + cucuk some lubang for steam to pass tru..

Steam glutinous rice for 20 minutes then add salt, sugar and thick coconut milk to the rice.

Colour half the rice with blue colouring if u like ..or with the blue flower juice, dono what it is called liao...bunga kantan?

Let it stay for 2 mins.


Return rice and coconut mixture to the steaming tray and steam for another 10 minutes until well cooked.

Panfry the grated white coconut until evenly browned n wangi...

Heat oil in a wok and fry ingredients (A) until fragrant. Add the prawns, dried prawns, seasoning (B), coconut and candied melon. Kacau -kacau till evenly distributed.. then taste n see.... not enuf sweet add sugar, not enuf salty add salt..

Dish out and set aside to cool.


Take the rice out n stir evenly, like making sushi rice lidat..

Place 2 tablespoonful of glutinous rice in the centre of a banana leaf.

Grease the leaf if u need to..

Spread one tablespoonful of filling in the centre:

Roll the rice firmly, if not enuf rice, add sumore, dun kiam siap..

Wrap each roll firmly in the banana leaf, press the ends together and secure the ends with bamboo picks.


Grill the rolls over charcoal fire or in an electric grill for 15 minutes, turning the rolls
occasionally. An alternative is to pan-grill the rolls in a frying pan, to brown the banana leaves all over, until aromatic..Lastly, arrang and take picture for blogging purposes...

This is our breakfast when we were in Sofia.. We were disappointed when the hostel guy showed us this for breakfast..

Surprisingly, after eating, we wanted more!!MORE!! even after we reached airport, we bought to eat on the plane..haha...

Even with the delicious duck rice awaiting, we still finished it..

You know how someties you are just blinded by some small factors... jus like when you are comparing 2 things, the moment you look at it side by side, its already in your mind which 1 you like..so no point comparing actually...

There could be a thousand bad points in one, but as long as you see one good point that you like, doenst matter how much good point the other 1 has, u'll still like dis 1.. same the other way round.. if u manage to spot 1 tiny bad point and it annoys you, which is 'the slow issue' in this case, sorry oredi... cant help.. the "slow" "slow" keep coming in..hehe..

Right now my heart says... iPHONE 3GGG..wakaka... so ppl can come tell me its bigger, it has no video messaging..but still... its iPHone 3G..

New Babyy...

Hehe...sori la, so long din update... Not at home most of the time, n internet abit slow, so lazy 2 update... + cannot find my camera cable, so ... the following pictures might melanggar peraturan-peraturan copyright...

Chair..hehe..It arrived about a week ago...keke...till now i think i sat on it 5 times oni...

Spent 2 hours to fix it, n one of the screw fell INTO the chair, so got abit of music if you shake the chair vigorously...(thanks to some 'pro' that tried to help me fix the chair) ...

but still working without the 1 screw la..



The chair was ok ok la..but not a super great chair ..dono worth the amount i pay onot also...

After being influenced by Mr E, i decided to email the seller n complain complain abit la.. the allignment of chair not right, spent so much time fixing, bla bla...



CONCLUSION:

12 months free line rental, too good to be true?

When I woke up this morningguess what I received on my mailbox:

Notice the address on the back...my address is 17/4, but it says 17-APR..haha...I'm surprised that it reached..smart Mr postman...


I am not surprised to see the phone company taking so much effort just to keep their customers. Many online mobile shops are starting to grow like my favourite phrase (bagai cendawan tumbuh selepas hujan), with name like mobilephones2yourdoor, mobilephonesforyou, bestcontractmobile, etc..etc... I see the name also I feel weird..haha..like so unestablished...can rearrange become the word 'scammmm'...

2 weeks ago, I called to cancel my o2 contract bcos my 1 year is over with onestopphoneshop...

"onestopphonesshop n e2save are nolonger under carphonewarehouse".

CPW bought Onestop, an online based company 2 years ago for 15million. Their business was good at first, even carphonewarehouse.com upon seeing that, start to restructured their website to show more of their promotions. As many as 5000-10000 connections they get per week, beating The Link and Phones4U (the common mobile shop that we see in shopping complexes)...

but...

Starting last year, the company starts to lose money due to the high amount of low-spending customers (like me...haha..) Onestop is giving out too many free line rental contracts than they can handle. Many cases of ppl not getting back their cashback, claiming that they have been scammed, etc...Ppl who dont get their caashback from Onestop start to contact Carphone for their cashbacks...n due to all this issues, CPW decided to "disown" Onestop...

The weird thing is, when i receive the brochure, it says:

"onestopphoneshop is part of CPW...bla bla..to upgrade my fone, call CPW"...

I wonder isit CPW that sent the brochure ore OneStop...Sounds like CPW trying to curi Onestop punya customer...haha...

Bcos for this 3 years in UK, I have been using all this 12 months free line rental contracts, where you pay your bills and you can claim back you money after that... meaning i practically dont have to pay a cent... When I told my parents, they said:

" Then what they earn? Got cheat ppl 1 onot..."

I think that is what every1 else wonder also... SO far I am very lucky that I get most of my cashbacks...There's this online company, mobile outlet that went bankrupt recently and my housemate lost 400 pds with that company...I was with that company last year..haha..lucky that I've completed my cashback..hoho...

All this 12 months free thing rite, they are operating on probabilities also..just like a casino... They set many cashback rules, hoping that their customers will miss their cashbacks... Buying a phone from them is just like gambling at the casino...

- If your bills dont reach them by 14 days, you dont get your cashback.

- If you dont send original bills, you dont get your cashback.

- If you miss 1 cashback, ur subsequent cashbacks are automatically canceled.

- If you pay your bill late you miss your cashback.

- Some company if you change address, you dont get your money.

- If you change your tariff, you dont get your money.

- If postman onstrike, haleluyah...bye bye to your cashback... (that is when i think mayb they
pay the postman to go onstrike..haha) The postmen just need to go onstrike once..n those who
failed their cashback at that time, wont get cashback for the whole year...how convenient..

- N to make things more complicated, they came out with the voucher system..you need to send in bills with voucher... ONLY ORIGINAL...another loophole for you to forget...

"where did I keep my voucher??"

See...so many rules against you claiming your cashback...The probability of you missing your cashback is so high that it can still keep all these companies running...

But still, if you are 100% sure that you can follow all above, there is still a risk that the company will go bankrupt b4 u can claim all...

So think wisely b4 you get any of the free line rental contracts...there is still my favourite buymobilephones.net that i get 3 of my 12 months free from n never failed me..haha..but no guarantees, cos one of my friend failed...due to negligence..hehe...

I am still thinking should i get a new contract? But to be honest, after 3 years of cashbacks, I am getting abit tired of fear that my bills dont come etc.. I think I would rather get a not so good deal from a more established company than a 'too good to be true' deal from companies like mobilephones2yourdoor, rainbowmobile... Bak kata pepatah,

"setinggi-tinggi tupai melompat, akan jatuh ke tanah jua"

So i better stop lompat now..haha..but the word "FREE" is still too tempting..haha...

New FLat MATE...

Yesterday was a hapy hapy hapy day..haha...
I found myself a new housemate for next year..keke...
I was cracking my head for so long, thinking who to stay with next year, where to stay, what kind of house, arr...pening...

I woke up in the morning, n some1 just make my day by settling all my problemss..haha...
She offered me her nice cozy flat with cheap rent and super strategic location near the gym for my future SSP (super slimming programe) coming academic year.. N better, she's gona have her PS3 kwa kwa kwa...

n on top of that, she is nice n funny n have some same interest with me..keke...
MOST important, she is PRETTy...
seeee...

Ppl alwiz say if you stay with pretty people, you'll become pretty as well...haha...
soo looking forward to next year..hehe...

Skiing in France

Just back from my ski trip in La Plagne:

The smiley face that we all grew to like..

I rate this as the best christmas trip so far...Skiing is GREAT GREAT GREAT fun...
Hmm...mayb first few days of torture, but last few days of superb fun...

For those planning their winter trip next year, skiing would be a great experience.

I personally recommend the UCPA (click), sort of a ski centre that pao ka liao (includes everything)... the package we took was just about 300 pds for 1 week of skiing, including Chunted instructor (seriously hansem), equipment, superb buffet style food, ski pass, accomodation, etc...ofcourse not including transport la..

zzz...abit sleepy already... smelly clothes still in the bag, room still din clean yet, infact din bathe yet oso...still got some snow stuck on my hair..

p/s: don't be surprised to see blogs about skiing tumbuh bagai cendawan selepas hujan...bcos the great bloggers helenngu and angchoonseong went with me as well...

Shop Online?

Nowadays, with the advance of technology, wad also can do online..with just afew clicks, goods are sent right to your door steps..from flight tickets, bookings to shoes, clothes, handphone, laptop, even underwear oso can buy online...Dats y people are getting lazier n lazier, fatter n fatter...Some ppl even shop for groceries online...whoa..

Unlike back home, here I seldom see got rotten apples, pears, oranges sold in supermarket...so there is no need to go picit picit to see fresh or not or ketuk-ketuk to see crunchy ornot..(kerja aunty aunty sekalian)..just read the lable, if it says sweet and crunchy, most probably IT IS sweet n crunchy..haha... dat is y ppl can buy online...

Unlike back home...apples with big 50 cent size indent oso still put on sale...here got clearance section, so make sure all going-to-rot stuff get sold off...

That is y eBay, amazon n stuff can bermastautin in this country...ppl are generally more 'trustable'...Not to say there are no penipu..i oso kena tipu b4..but lesser kot..even if kena tipu ebay, insurans cover..haha..so relatively safe la...

Groceries all those can settle online, see picture, but baju lei??din try how 2 know can fit onot?I was looking for my ski wear online, due to kemalasan to go out in the cold to shop...then i saw this..H&M store online..

They even have this Sims 2 thingy for u to create your own image online to try on clothings..
Can put ur face, adjust body shape, height, etc..

See..underwear oso can try...no hygiene problems..
